Market Development and Maintenance of Dental Handpiece

1. Market development of dental handpieces

According to the needs of social development, people's health concepts are constantly updated, and dental health is particularly important. Therefore, the repair and maintenance of dental handpieces in dental equipment is becoming more and more significant. It is necessary for doctors and users to understand its repair and maintenance methods.

The teeth are located in the mouth, and the dental handpiece is the most commonly used device for clinical treatment in dentistry. Although air blasting technology and laser technology have also begun to be used in oral clinical treatment, dental handpieces still occupy an important position.

Now, dental handpieces have become an inseparable tool for oral clinical work. There are a wide variety of dental handpieces available on the market, with complete functions and different qualities, and there are very broad choices.

2. The maintenance of dental handpieces

Dental handpieces are expensive, so it is necessary to take proper care to maintain their mechanical properties for as long as possible.

On the other hand, the dental handpiece generates negative pressure when the operation stops, and blood, saliva and debris will enter its interior with air and water, and distribute to the bearings and balls, etc., and become an important medium for cross-infection. Therefore, the dental handpiece's care and maintenance are also becoming more and more important.

Dental handpieces are used frequently, and of course they cause wear and tear. But according to surveys, the most common causes of handpiece damage are debris and overheating.

Blood, saliva, debris, and tooth powder that enter the interior of the handpiece during surgery can damage the mechanical parts of the handpiece over time. Some parts of the dental handpiece will also be damaged under the action of high temperature, so the manufacturer requires the sterilization temperature not to exceed 135 ℃.

The sterilization and maintenance of the dental handpiece should be the responsibility of a special person. No matter how busy the work is, these tasks must be completed step by step, and there must be no "cutting corners".

The so-called "maintenance-free" handpieces are only specially machined on the surface of the balls, so that the handpiece does not stick to debris and the lubricant is not lost during use.

But the rest of the bearing (like O-rings, etc.) still needs maintenance, so don't neglect the regular maintenance of these handpieces. The parts of the dental handpiece are made of steel, so the key to maintenance is to ensure that these parts are isolated from moisture at all times, and the best means of isolation is lubrication.

Lubricate the handpiece as directed in the instruction manual daily or before disinfection. Good lubrication can reduce wear on handpiece components, especially handpiece bearings and movement parts.

A good lubricating fluid can reduce rusting of the handpiece components, especially the holding mechanism of the handpiece. Use the manufacturer's recommended handpiece cleaning lubricant when lubricating.

The dental handpiece must work under the rated working pressure. Too high or too low will affect the normal operation of the dental handpiece, and even cause damage to the dental handpiece.

Different manufacturers of dental handpieces have different optimal working air pressure, so before replacing different dental handpieces, the air pressure should be adjusted according to the manufacturer's regulations to ensure that the dental handpiece is in good working condition.

O-rings and gaskets are wearing parts, aging o-rings will affect the service life of the bearing, and replacing the aging o-rings in time will prolong the life of the bearing. Replacing aged gaskets can prevent poor sealing issues.

To prolong the service life of the handpiece bearings, do not use burs with non-standard diameters, do not use burs with severe wear, and do not use high-speed handpieces during mechanic grinding (including clinical model and restoration modifications). It is strictly forbidden to use burs that are bent, deformed, or whose shank diameter does not meet the standard.
